Mike Brklacich

Mike Brklacich is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, Carleton University, Ottawa, CANADA. He has been part of the GECHS team since 1996 and is a former Chair (January 2001 to June 2005) of the GECHS Scientific Steering Committee. His research over the past 15 years has focused on human dimensions of global environmental change (GEC), with specific interests in social vulnerability concepts and applications, food security, and the capacity of human systems to adapt to GEC. Current and recently funded research projects include: A Comparative Assessment of the Capacity of Canadian Rural Communities to Adapt to Uncertain Futures (with Maureen Reed, Pat Gallaugher and John Pierce); SAVI: The Southern Africa Vulnerability Initiative (with Karen O’Brien, Coleen Vogel & Tim Quinlan), Vulnerability of Food systems to Global Environmental Change (with John Ingram), and The Socio-Economic Vulnerability And Adaptability of Canadian Agriculture To Climate Change. He is also Vice-Chair (July 2001 to June 2006) of the Global Environmental Change and Food Systems project sponsored by the Earth System Science Partnership , a lead author for Fourth Assessment by Intergovernmental Panel on Climatic Change Working Group II, and a member of Scientific Advisory Committee to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research.
